From my Go Fund Me campaign:
For as long as I can remember, I knew I was adopted. It wasn’t, however, until my teen years that my desire to know my ancestry really became an obsession. It led me to the field of genealogy which I’ve become fascinated by.
Most adoptees will understand the almost instinctual compulsion to create familial foundations under my feet. When you grow up not knowing anything about your parents, their parents, etc, it often leaves you feeling a little lost.
My short-term goal is to complete both the Genealogical Essentials and Online Genealogical Research programs at Boston University. I also want to join both the National Genealogical Society and the Association of Professional Genealogists Membership. The hope is to eventually become both a certified and accredited genealogist.
I want to know where I came from, but more importantly I’d also like to help other adoptees discover their ancestral roots. I’m already skilled with research and so much is now available online. I simply lack a better understanding of the intricacies of genealogical research.
I’ve put off getting an education for so long, but don’t want to let this passion of mine pass me by any longer. And that is where I need help. I’m not in a financial position to handle the costs. If you can help, even just a little I’d be forever grateful. I’d also be sure to pay it forward by helping other adoptees build their family histories.
I’m hoping for around $4,000. It covers the cost of both programs at Boston University, books I’ll need, the memberships and the additional education I’ll need to help me pass the certification from the Board of Certification of Genealogists and the accreditation from the International Commission for the Accreditation of Genealogists.
